Worldline awarded for its In-Vehicle Payment proof-of-concept at the MERCHANT PAYMENTS ECOSYSTEM (MPE) 2017  

Berlin, February 16th 2017. At the 2017 MPE awards ceremony held on February 15th, Worldline [Euronext:WLN], European leader in the payments and transactional services industry, won the mPOS award for its car-based payment proof of concept using the new automotive Operating System GENIVI®. The solution allows a seamless drive-thru experience as drivers can pay for goods and services anytime, anywhere without getting out of their car.

The next generation In-Vehicle Payment proof-of-concept of Worldline provides drivers equipped with an embedded tablet in the car dashboard with innovative services, on top of the traditional ones as the music streaming apps and GPS. Drivers can now easily make purchases from their connected vehicle. Merchant applications can be onboarded in the In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) system, and launched automatically when the driver is near the store thanks to beacon devices.

The proof-of-concept has been implemented to illustrate the use and convenience of the solution for a market drive, but it could apply to many other use-cases as fuel stations, electric car chargers, on-street parking, road toll, etc.

This proof of concept is relying on two Worldline solutions:

  • WL Trusted Authentication, the second generation strong authentication that ensures the security of transactions.
  • WL Wallet the all-in-one solution securing the consumer’s digital identity throughout the customer journey and enabling easy interactions

The benefits of the In-Vehicle Payment system are manifold. Drivers benefit from an enhanced shopping experience with a secure and convenient way of making payments from their cars without getting out any device. Merchants will be able to make the most a new distribution channel in the car with a quick time-to-market as the solution is based on standard protocols. Besides, automotive manufacturers will create a new innovative ecosystem enhancing the driver experience and improving their customer loyalty.
